Collation
f. [i] | 1-38, 4 8-1, 512, 6-78, 810-1, 94 | 10-368, 376, 388 | 39-418 | f. [ii]
Modern, Greek signatures in pencil, on the lower corner, right, of the first recto of the quires, from γ΄ (3, f. 25r), to μ΄ (40, f. 319r).Condition
The manuscript is in fair condition. The leaves are yellowed and stained, but the text is always readable.
Additions
On f. [i] recto the shelfmark is written in black ink ‘ Gg-1-2’.
On f. [i] verso there is a title in French, written in a grey ink by a hand recurring in the manuscripts owned by J.-B. Hautin (see History).
Binding
Modern western binding. Paper and bookcloth (on the spine) cover over couched-laminate boards. Gold tooling on spine with shelfmark ‘ Gg.I.2’ and title ‘ Graeca’. 230 × 153 × 55 mm.
The cover is stained and worn.
Accompanying Material
On f. [i] verso has been pasted a small paper leaf ( 210 × 95 mm. ) containing an index written in light brown ink by a hand recurring in the manuscripts owned by J.-B. Hautin, writing that name and the manuscripts' content. In this codex this hand wrote also a title on f. [i] verso, ‘ Recueil de | plusieurs autheurs grecs’. The index has been implemented by at least another hand, which also added folio numbers.
Another fragment of a paper leaf is loose between ff. 128v and 129r containing a list of Greek words with numbers, perhaps part of an index, in the same ink and hand. The verso contains part of a text in French.
History
Provenance and Acquisition
This manuscript, like many others at the University Library, was owned by a certain J.-B. Hautin, probably to be identified with Jean Baptiste II Hautin, son of the French scholar and numismatist Jean-Baptiste Hautin (approximately 1580-1640) (on this matter see Jackson 2006, pp. 38-40 with bibliography; on this manuscript see p. 33 in particular). On f. [i] verso has been pasted a paper sheet with an index written by a hand recurring in the manuscripts owned by J.-B. Hautin; moreover the same hand wrote a title on f. [i] verso.
Owned by John Moore (1646-1714) , bishop of Ely: no. 1047 under 'Alia Addenda', following the the concordance of Bernard / Tanner numbers with the new Library classmarks, compiled by Thomas Goodall, with annotations by Stephen Whisson in 1753, now MS Oo.7.56. According to an inscription by Henry Bradshaw (1831-1886), University Librarian 1867-1886, the items listed in this section are 'certainly not all Bishop Moore's'. However Moore's possession of other Hautin manuscripts suggests that this had been part of his collection.
Presented to the University Library in 1715 by George I : donation bookplate engraved by John Pine (1690-1756) in 1736 on f. f. [i] recto.

Layout
ff. 1r-16r A single column of 21 lines. 140 × 80 mm.
ff. 19r-70v A single column of 27-30 lines. 155-160 × 80-90 mm.
Hand(s)
ff. 1r-17v l. 2, 19r-19v, 20v-30v, 31v-70v Hand A: minuscule script slanting to the right, characterized by a strong emphasis in tracing oblique strokes, rather regular in size, with the exception of some enlarged letters, such as phi, omicron, alpha, and ligatures, such as epsilon-csi, epsilon-ypsilon, the compendium for καὶ. From f. 19r the script becomes smaller, the differences in the size of letters become less evident, as well as the emphasis on the oblique strokes. The script appears less regular and more nervous, but its charatcteristic forms are still recognizable, such as majuscule beta with irregular lobes, the lower going under the line, zeta in form of a '2', high tau in a 'flag'-form.
The text is written in a brown ink, titles and initials in red. Sometimes round parts of letters are filled with red ink.
ff. 17v l. 3-18v, 20r Hand B: the texts with musical notations in these leaves were written by another, probably contemporary hand.
ff. 16v-18v, 20v Middle-byzantine melodic notation
Decoration
On f. 1r there is a rectangular headpiece filled with branches and scrolls, coloured in red.
Small flourishings, rinceaux in red ink are traced near some titles, see e.g. ff. 64v-65r.
Initials in ekthesis, in red ink, are decorated with a simple vegetal motif, see e.g. f. 1r.
There are also smaller thick initials in ekthesis in red ink, see e.g. f. 2v.

In the manuscript is preserved a loose small paper leaf (here f.
