Condition
Layout
A single column of 21-24 lines of Greek text. 180 × 135 mm. The line and page divisions correspond to those of the exemplar
Hand(s)
The main Greek text was copied in direct imitation of the early medieval western European majuscule script of the exemplar. In accordance with the exemplar, diacritics are largely absent, but the double dot often appears on iota upsilon, and accents of anomalous form occasionally appear, while the punctuation marks used are the lower and middle points.
The Latin text, by the same hand, likewise imitates the form of the exemplar, in this case an Anglo-Saxon minuscule script.
Decoration
The initial letters of many words are expanded, as in the exemplar, but without imitating the painted decoration applied to such letters there.
Additions
The original text copied from the exemplar includes running headers identifying the current epistle.
On f. iii recto a later hand using black ink has copied the text of f. 1r, imitating its script and layout.
On the front pastedown is a note dated 1839 recording the origin of the manuscript: ‘This MS of St Paul's Epistles (one of the books bequeathed to Trinity College by Dr Richard Bentley) is a transcript of the Codex Boernerianus which belongs to the Royal Library at Dresden. See Horne's Introduction Vol II p 99 fifth edition, Wetstein's Prolegomena ad Novi Testamenti Tom II p. 9 and especially Kuster Preface to the Amsterdam reprint of Mill's Greek Testament, fol. 1710 pagina penultima. I.W. 1839’.
Binding
19th-century quarter leather binding over millboards, with marbled paper covering and plain pastedowns. The title ‘Paul Epist Gr Lat MS’ is tooled in gold on a red label on the spine, and the classmark appears on patches.
223 × 175 × 57 mm.
