Contents

Introduction: Emmanuel College MS 32 is a Miscellany of Greek texts composed of 12 parts, some of which recur in Emmanuel College MS 33. The first part consists of two damaged quires placed in inverted order. The manuscript from which they came contained, or should have contained, the Idylls of Theocritus of Syracuse, and the margins are ruled to receive the scholia. Part I was copied by Andreas Donos (died before 1560), who also copied Part IV. The latter contain some lines of Theogony (ll. 520-1022) and the Scutum Herculis (ll. 1-238, 400-480) by Hesiod, but the order is disturbed. Part III consists of four quires from a manuscript of the Alexandra of Lycophoron with scholia by Isaac Tzetzes. The order is disturbed and a fifth quire is now in Emmanuel MS 33, Part II (ff. 95r-[102]). The quire signatures in this part of Emmanuel MS 32 have been trimmed and only two traces remain, but a Greek signature survives in Emmanuel MS 33 (ϛʹ, on ff. 95r and [102]v). From this and the lines of text, it is possible to reconstruct the following quire order:
  • αʹ = Emmanuel MS 32 quire 7 (+ f. 70)
  • βʹ = quire 8
  • γʹ = quire 10
  • δʹ = missing
  • εʹ = Emmanuel MS 32 quire 9
  • ϛʹ = Emmanuel MS 33, Part II.
Part VI contains some carmina of Gregory of Nazianzus from a larger selction known as Gedichtgruppe I. The Carmina de se ipso are copied along with the Paraphase A in two columns. The original order of quires was:
  • 18: ff. 136r-[142]v, 135r-135v
  • 20: ff. [151]r-[158]v
  • 19: ff. 143r-[150]v.
